Electric Forklift Myths

Did you know that CARER electric forklifts are available in very high capacity, pneumatic style chassis? With increasing demands to have high-capacity forklifts adhere to Tier 4 compliance, the electric solution is a real alternative. No longer are electric forklifts tied to capacities focused on 3,000 to 10,000 lbs. With advancements in the electrical componentry and higher kilowatt hours, CARER can offer high-capacity forklifts with similar performance as their internal combustion counterparts. Now, mines, mills, manufacturers, ports, lumber, pulp, and paper companies are able to choose from 46 different chassis configurations between 12,000lbs and up to 60,000lbs capacity with the CARER electric forklift solution that best fits their capacity demand.

Myth 2 – “The battery doesn’t output enough power for my application.”
Are you aware that not all electric forklifts are built the equal? Each electric forklift can be configured with very different power systems (battery & charger) to meet specific operational expectations. Carer offers varying energy consumption performance capabilities across 46 different chassis configurations over 12,000lb lift capacity. With over 40 years of experience, Carer Electric Forklifts continues to focus on the necessary engineering and design to maximize runtimes for various performance demands across a number of industries. Whether it is in a single shift operation or in a very demanding triple shift application, Carer offers the ideal model that will maximize the exact power supply to fit any and all operational requirements.

Myth 3 – “Electric forklifts are much more expensive.”
The electric forklift is only more expensive if it costs you more and it doesn’t. When all operating costs are considered including adjusted life cycle depreciation, extended operating life, reduced maintenance & repair costs, energy consumption, labor costs, tire wear and downtime, Carer electric forklifts often show a return on investment in under 24 months. This gap becomes larger with high-capacity forklifts where maintenance costs & energy consumption exponentially increase as the size of machine increases. Carer Electric Forklifts assists in analyzing & measuring overall operating costs of an ICE forklift compared to an electric, proving the return of the initial capital investment of an electric forklift over a traditional ICE fleet. For example, Carer electric forklifts have approximately 90 parts, versus up to 1100 parts on an IC truck, which means many more moving parts to eventually fail and need replacing. In fact, the annual maintenance and repair costs for a Carer electric forklift are approximately one-third of what it costs to maintain and repair a similar internal combustion (IC) forklift. Furthermore, in almost all cases, the operating costs for a Carer electric forklift is 85-95 percent less than a diesel or LP forklift. Where an LP forklift might cost $6000 per year, a comparable Carer electric forklift will only cost $600 to $900 per year. When the math is done, what seems to be a premium on an electric truck, ends up being a savings.

Myth 4 – “Electric forklifts won’t work in our environment.”
Did you know that electric forklifts can operate outdoors in all weather conditions? Much the same as their ICE forklift equivalent, electric forklifts can operate outdoors in rain and snow, even extreme hot and cold temperatures. Similar to the advances proven in the automotive industry, electric forklifts have progressed to a level where they can take the place of the majority of ICE forklifts, regardless of operating environment. At times, even adding additional performance advantages, especially in traction and acceleration. Carer Electric Forklifts offer models specific to each application’s specific environmental condition. Whether it is cold and snowy or an excessively hot foundry application, Carer Electric Forklifts has a model that will fit most environments

Myth 5 – Can My Forklift Fleet Contribute to Sustainability
The word Sustainability can invoke many differing views. At the foundation of sustainability, you will find the process of change, in which the use of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development all contributes to the resulting shift in organizational views proven in a group’s day-to-day decision making. Electric forklifts deliver changes in air quality, dependency on variable fossil fuels (and their unpredictable pricing), extended service life, increased tire life and less oil disposal. Carer Electric Forklifts is committed to assisting customers wanting to lead their industry in environmental sustainability one forklift at a time. Many incentive programs are currently available to influence the acquisition of machinery that eliminates carbon emissions. These can be up to 80% of the acquisition cost. Please let us help you navigate through some the programs available in your region.

Myth 6 – Market Acceptance – “We don’t want to be the guinea pig for new technology.”
The first forklift manufactured was an electric driven unit. Fifteen years ago, 35% of the sit-down counterbalance forklifts sold into the North American market were electric driven units. Today, nearly 70% of these are now electric drive units. The key historical objections to acquiring electric forklifts are no longer valid. That is, performance, battery run time, all climate and weather operation, and acquisition price as the Carer electric forklifts meet all operating requirements for most applications. Once operators allow themselves the opportunity to become accustomed to operating an electric forklift it remains their preference going forward. No operators ever prefer to return to operating an internal combustion machine. So, no, you are not being the guinea pig…you are being a market leader and driving smart solutions into your organization. Please consider Carer electric forklifts when converting from your internal combustion, old forklifts.
